Joshua 3:1-13

 

 

 

서구 사회의 결혼 풍습 중에 시집가는 딸에게 엄마가 진주를 주는 전통이 있다고 합니다. 이 진주를 흔히‘얼어붙은 눈물’(frozen tears)이라고 부릅니다. 그 이유는 딸이 시집가서 흘려야 할 많은 눈물을 상징한 것이기 때문입니다. 그런데 왜 진주를 택했을까요? 그것은 진주의 생성 과정을 알면 쉽게 이해할 수 있습니다.

In the Western culture, there is a tradition that is passed on from mother to daughter.  Jewelry made of pearls.  These pearls are called Frozen tears, the reason, and the daughter future tears that will be shed during her marriage with the husband.  Why does the mother give a Pearl?The process in which the pearl is made.

 

진주는 바다에서 나옵니다. 땅에서 캐내지 않는 유일한 보석입니다. 진주는 ‘아비큘리 데’(Aviculidae)라고 불리는 특별한 굴속에서 만들어 집니다. 이 굴속에 모래알이 들어 오면 굴은 ‘나카’(Nacre)라는 물질을 만들어 모래알을 싸 바르기 시작합니다. 나카가 많이 덮일수록 진주는 커지고 값도 올라갑니다. 이 나카는 아주 조금씩 천천이 생성되기 때문에 작은 진주도 수개월이 걸리고 큰 진주는 몇 년이 걸려서 이루어집니다.

 

The pearl is made in the sea.  This pearl is not from the ground. Pearl is made from a special oyster called (Aviculidae).  Inside this oyster a small sand enters and a liquid call (Nacre) will cover the sand and over time will grow bigger produce a oyster.  This Nacre covers over time and small many months and bigger pearls many years.

 

그러나 굴속에 들어온 모래알이 모두 진주가 되는 것은 아닙니다. 모래알이 들어오면 굴에게 두 가지 선택의 길이 있습니다.

 

하나는 나카를 생산해서 코팅을 시작하는 길이며 다른 하나는 모래알을 무시해 버리는 길입니다. 이 경우 수개월, 수년에 걸친 고생은 하지 않아도 되지만 그 대신 이 모래 때문에 굴은 병들고 많은 경우에 아주 죽어 버립니다.

 

But not all sand will become a pearl.  As the sand enters the oyster, it has two paths

1.    Nacre will cover sand

2.    Oyster will reject the sand

If the oyster does not reject the sand and does not cover the Oyster with this Nacre liquid the Oyster will eventually get sick and die

 

굴이 당면하는 이 두 개의 선택이란 침입한 모래알의 도전을 받아들여 진주로 만드느냐 아니면 무시해서 피차 망하느냐 하는 선택입니다.  -최효섭p672-

The oyster has two choice.  The oyster has choices.  The choice to accept and cover the sand with itself and make a pearl.

3.    Reject the sand and die

 

그렇습니다. 이것은 굴의 선택일 뿐 아니라 우리 하나님의 자녀들의 선택이기도 합니다.

This is not just a choice of a Pearl.  It is our choice for all who loves Christ.

 

때때로 하나님 자녀인 성도의 인생가운데도 모래알이 들어올 때가 있습니다. 모래알이 들어오면 아픕니다. 고통스럽습니다. 그러나 말씀과 성령으로 그 모래알을 품고 인내하면 진주같은 성도가 됩니다. 세상이 감당할 수 없는 하나님의 사람으로 빚어지는 것입니다. 그러므로 성도는 어떠한 환난이 닥친다 할지라도 포기해서는 안됩니다. 오직 주님만 의지하고 나아가야 합니다. 성도는 주님 안에서 고난을 진주로 만드는 통로로 삼는 세상이 감당할 수 없는 사람들인 것입니다. 
 

Sometime in life there are time where we have sand that comes into our lives.  When a sand comes into our lives it hurts, it pains us.  However through Gods word and the Holy Spirit we are able to cover the hurt and eventually going through this process it produces pearls.  Produce precious people that are able to withstand whatever life may throw at us.  Therefore Gods people can not give up whatever trials may come.  We must trust in Christ and press on.  In Christ as pain and suffering comes by being gracious in Christ is the means by which we transform as pearls.

 

오늘 이스라엘 백성도 매우 비슷한 형편에 놓였습니다. 40년간 헤매다 겨우 가나안 땅을  눈 앞에 두었는데 요단강이 가로 막고 있었습니다. 뒤에는 지긋지긋한 광야요, 앞에는 요단강이 넘실거리고 있습니다. 되돌아 갈수도 앞으로 나아갈 수도 없는 상황이었습니다. 소위 사면초가의상황입니다. 그러나 하나님은 앞으로 나아가라 하십니다. 요단강을 건너라 하십니다. 1년 중 가장 강물이 범람할 때 하나님이 건너라고 하십니다.

In this passage the Israelites are in a similar situation.  For 40 years they’ve suffered in the desert and the promise land lies ahead of them the only obstacle is the Jordan River.  Behind them is a hostile desert and ahead of them there’s tumultuous Jordan River.  They’re trapped they can’t go back and they can’t go forward.  They’re trapped on all sides, However God commands Israel to press on go forward.  When the river is at it’s peak God tells Israel to press on. 

 

우리는 오늘 2014년의 마지막 날과 2015년의 첫 날을 맞이하는 시점에 있습니다. 올 한해 동안 우리 CCC와 LWC는 하나님의 놀라운 인도하심을 받았습니다. 이제 새 해 새 날을 맞이 하면서 앞으로 나아가라 하십니다. 이제 새 해에도 여러 모래알이 들어 올 것입니다. 이것을 품어 냄으로서 진주처럼 빛나는 몸 된 공동체가 되기를 소원합니다.

We are on the cusp of a new year 2014 is almost behind us and 2015 lies ahead.  This past year CCC and LWC guided us to this point.  As we have gone through the year God call us to press on to the new year.  In this new year there will be more sand to come.  It is our duty to cover the sand with grace through Gods word to produce precious Pearls.

 

그러면 어떻게 나아가므로 새 해와 새 날들을 승리할 수 있습니까?

How will we be able to have victory and overcome for this new year?

 

1. 약속의 말씀을 따라가야 합니다.(2-4)

1.  Trust in the Promise of God’s Word (2-4)

 

2,3절을 보세요.

사흘 후에관리들이 진중으로 두루 다니며 백성에게 명령하여 이르되 너희는 레위사람 제사장들이 너희 하나님 여호와의 언약궤 메는 것을 보거든 너희가 있는 곳을 떠나 그 뒤를 따르라      

 ² At the end of three days the officers went through the camp ³ and commanded the people, “As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it. 

 

사랑하는 여러분!

요단강을 건너기 위해 앞으로 나갈 때 무엇이 제일 먼저 갑니까? 언약궤입니다. 언약궤가 무엇입니까? 쉽게 말하면 약속의 궤입니다. 이스라엘 백성들이 광야에 있을 때 하나님께서 모세에게 이것을 만들라고 하셨고 지성소 안에 두게 하셨습니다. 하나님은 이 언약궤 위에 내려오셔서 이스라엘을 만나셨고 이들의 조상인 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 하신 약속을 동일하게 하셨습니다.

Beloved Church!

To cross the Jordan, what is the first to go.  The ark of the covenant.  What is the ark of the covenant?  The promises of God.  When Israel was in the desert God commanded moses to make the ark.  The was placed in the Holy of Holies.  This was where God came and met his people.  This where the covenant made between Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was placed onto Israel as a nation. 

 

그러면 왜? 약속의 궤가 먼저 갑니까? 이것은 약속을 신실히 지키시는 하나님이 앞서 가신다는 뜻입니다. 우리의 남은 인생 여러분은 누구를 따라 가시겠습니까? 앞서 가시는 하나님만 따라가시길 축원합니다.

Why was the ark first to go?  The God of promise will be the first to go.  The remainder of our lives who will we follow?  We will follow our God of promise who goes before us.  That is my desire.

 

4b절을 보세요.

그리하면 너희가 행할 길을 알리니 너희가 이전에 이 길을 지나보지 못하였음이니라

 Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.”

 

그렇습니다. “그리하면!”곧 “약속의 말씀을 따라가면”,“너희 행할 길을 알리라”고 하셨습니다.

We follow not the way we want but rather listening carefully to the Word of God “in order that” we may know the way you shall God.

 

아브라함을 보세요! 그는 갈 바를 알지 못했지만 성경은 그가‘말씀을 좇아갔다’ 그랬습니다. 다윗을 보세요! 그는 노래하기를‘주의 말씀은 내 발의 등이요 내 길에 빛이 니이다’했습니다.

Let’s look to Abraham. When God called him he did not know where he was headed he trusted God’s word.  Look at David, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet a light unto my path.”

 

인간은 한치 앞도 보지 못하는 자이지만 주의 말씀은 어두운 세상에서 내 발의 등이 되고 내 길에 빛이 되신다니 얼마나 놀라운 일입니까? 그러므로 하나님의 말씀을 아는 자는 자기 길을 볼 수 있는 눈을 갖게 되는 것입니다. 

People are not able to see what’s in front of them.  The word of God is able to become a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path.  How amazing is that.  A person who knows Gods word is able to see where he is headed.

 

여러분! 우리 교회가, 우리 가정이, 여러분 한 분 한 분이 따라가야 할 것이 무엇입니까? 사람입니까? 돈 입니까? 아닙니다! 이것으로는 안 됩니다.

Beloved church!  Our church, family, and every one of us here.  Do you know who you’re following.  Is it a person, money?  NO it will not work. 

 

오직 약속의 말씀을 따라가야 합니다. 이것만이 사는 길입니다. 그래서 날마다 큐티하는 자는 행복자입니다. 지혜자입니다. 요단을 건널 수 있는 자입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 온전히 따라가면 이전에 내가 가본 적이 없는 길이지만 온전히 지도하시기 때문입니다.여러분의 인생길에 앞서 가시는 하나님을 늘 말씀과 삶 안에서 만나시길 축원합니다.

It's the Gods promise in his word that we must follow.  This is the way that leads to life not death.  Therefore we must read God’s word (QT), this will lead us to happiness and wisdom.  A person who is able to safely cross the violent Jordan River.  When we listen and follow God’s word we are able to navigate through place we haven’t been.  In our path of life we meet God who is before us in his word and we must infuse that in our lives.

 

2. 자신을 성결케 해야 합니다.(5)

2. We must consecrate ourselves.(5)

 

5절을 보세요.

여호수아가 또 백성에게 이르되 너희는 자신을 성결하게 하라 여호와께서 내일 너희 가운데 에 기이한 일을 행하시리라

⁵ Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”

 

이 말씀은 무엇입니까? 앞으로 나가기 전에 먼저 자신을 스스로 성결케 하라는 것입니다. 요단강이 갈리는 하나님의 영광을 보려면 먼저 나 자신을 깨끗이 단정해야 합니다.

 

What does this word mean.  Before we go forward we must cleanse ourselves. You see as they cross the Jordan the glory of God will be present.

 

크게는 우리 민족과 나라의 죄악을 회개해야 합니다. 목이 곧은 백성처럼 좀 잘살게 되었다고 교만하여 하나님을 잊어버렸던 죄악을 회개해야 합니다. 무엇보다도 우리 그리스도인들이 하나님과 사람 앞에서 하나님의 자녀답게 살지 못했던 죄를 회개해야만 합니다. 교회가 하나님과 물질을 함께 주인으로 모신 죄를 회개해야 합니다. 교회와 지도자들이 세상에 본이 되지 못한 죄를 회개해야 합니다.

 

In the broader picture we must repent for the sins of our nation.  All because we seem okay.  We have become stiff necked people and we must repent for our pride.  As Christian we must repent for that fact that we do not behave as Christians.  As a church we look to money as an idol we must repent.  As leaders of the church the fact we are not the role models we are called to be. 

 

대통령으로부터 작은 소자에 이르기까지 자신을 돌아보며 스스로 성결케 하고 부정을 뿌리 뽑을 때 하나님께서 이 나라 가운데 기사를 행하실 것입니다. 작은 것부터 회개해야 합니다. 작은 것부터 고쳐야 합니다. 

 

From the President to the lowest person we all must repent so that God’s glory may be seen.  We must repent from the smallest, we must start will our smallest sin.

 

회개 없는 축복은 위험합니다. 자신을 성결케 하는 것이 가장 큰 축복 중의 축복입니다. 회개는 하나님의 영으로 다시금 부음 받는 것입니다. 나를 버리고 십자가 보혈의 피로 다시 씻어내는 것입니다. 

 

A blessing without repentance is dangerous.  Consecrating ourselves is the blessing.  Repentance is being renewed in the spirit of God.  Dying to my self by cleansing ourselves through the blood of Christ.

 

이 회개 뒤에 하나님의 역사가 임할 때 그것이 가장 큰 은혜입니다. 저는 새 해를 맞이하면서 우리 CCC와 LWC가 우리 민족과 이 미국의 죄를 회개하는 ‘대언 기도’ 를 하는 교회가 되기를 바랍니다. 저 북한 땅의 폭정과 우상숭배의 죄를 대신 회개하길 바랍니다. 지금도 단 돈 몇 십 달러에 두만강을 건너 중국 사람들에게 팔려가는 북한의 우리 딸들을 위해 울수 있기를 바랍니다. 자신을 씻고 또 씻어 하나님의 기적을 체험하는 역사가 있기를 축원합니다. 

 

After the repentance we can see the miracles of God that is blessing and grace of God.  For me, the new year I would like to see CCC and LWC repent and interceded on behalf of Korea and America.  Even North Korea, the persecution of North Korea, deifying the leaders of North Korea.  Even now, there are people who sell North Korean girls across the river we must pray in tears of repentance.  We must consecrate ourselves over and over so that we can see the miracles of God.

 

3. 살아계신 하나님을 전적으로 신뢰해야 합니다.(10)

3. We must fully trust in The Living God.(10)

 

10절을 보세요!

또 말하되 살아 계신 하나님이 너희 가운데 계시사 가나안 족속과 헷 족속과 히위 족속과 브리스 족속과 기르가스 족속과 아모리 족속과 여부스 족속을 너희 앞에서 반드시 쫓아내실 줄을 이것으로서 너희가 알리라

¹⁰ And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. 

 

지금 이스라엘 백성의 가장 큰 문제는 가나안 땅을 정복하는 것입니다. 거기에는 이미 일곱 족속이 무장하고 기다리고 있었습니다.그런데 그들을 치고 이겨 정복하기도 전에 요단강이 가로막고 있습니다.

 

Right now the major problem with Israel is not crossing the Jordan but to obtain the Promised Land.  There are 7 kingdoms tribes waiting to destroy them.  The Jordan is the only obstacle in their way.

 

여러분! 

하나님은 여러분 한 사람 한 사람에게 비전을 주셨습니다. 그러나 이 비전이 이루어지지도 않았는데 큰 어려움이 우리 앞에 놓이곤 합니다.생각지도 않은 요단강이 가로막고 서 있는 것입니다. 그러나 하나님의 사람 여호수아는 무엇이라고 합니까?

 

Beloved!  God has given all of you a vision.  Before that vision can be carried out there is an obstacle ahead of you.  Something that not even expected like the Jordan river stands in the way.  What does Gods servant Joshua say?

 

“이일곱 족속을 너희 앞에서 쫓아내실 것을 이것으로서 너희가 알리라”

“이 것으로서 너희가 알리라!”   

 

¹⁰ And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. 

 

¹¹ Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the Jordan.

 

이 말씀을 받으세요! 우리 앞에 놓인 요단강을 건너게 하심을 통해 우리에게 주신 비전에 대한 확증을 하시겠다는 것입니다. 곧 우리 앞에 어려운 문제를 해결해 주심으로 그 다음에 있는 더 큰 은혜를 주시는 것에 대한 증거로 삼으시겠다는 것입니다. 

 

Receive this word.  By crossing this Jordan river that seems so ominous, is a sign that God will give the land to the Israelites.  By going through the obstacle trusting the word of God is a sign that God will guarantee that will bring the vision he has given to us to completion. 

 

저는 집안에 크고 작은 문제가 일어 날 때마다 그것을 하나님의 사인으로 바꾸어 달라고 기도합니다.

In my household, whenever troubles arise I pray that this will be a sign.  In other words

 

사랑하는 여러분!

여러분 앞에 어떤 요단강이 있던지 오히려 이 일로 하나님이 살아 계심을 보게 해 달라고 기도하십시오! 이것이 살아 있는 신앙입니다. 

 

Beloved!  Whatever Jordan you maybe facing I pray that you may be able to see the living God at work in you live.  This is living faith.

 

하나님은 요단을 건너 가나안 땅을 주시겠다고 했습니다. 광야에서 가나안 땅으로 가려면 요단을 건너야만 합니다. 그런데 본문을 자세히 살펴보면 하나님께서 의도적으로 요단에 물이 가장 범람할 때 건너게 하십니다. 이것은 하나님께서 요단을 통해 축복을 주시기 위함이지 요단에 빠져 실패하게 하시려는 것이 아닙니다.

 

God promised that he cross the Jordan and give the Promised Land.  In the desert to get to Canaan you must cross the Jordan.  If we look at the text carefully they crossed the Jordan when the river was at its peak.  This was to show the Israelites the glory of God not that they should drown and perish.

 

요단은 하나님의 자식 공동체로 하여금 아버지 세대가 홍해를 건넌 그 축복을 경험하게 하는 통로입니다. 그러므로 요단을 두려워 할 것이 아니라 훈련시켜 인도하고자 하시는 하나님을 전적으로 의지해야만 합니다. 하나님이 반드시 가나안 땅을 주시겠다고 언약하셨기에 요단은 장애가 아니라 오히려 축복의 통로밖에 될 수 없는 것입니다.

 

God used the Crossing of the Jordan to show the same blessing of God in their previous generation when God lead Israel through the red sea.  We are not fear the Jordan we must look at the Jordan experience as training.  God has promised the Canaan, the Jordan is a means of grace that leads to the Promised Land.

 

그러므로 하나님이 주신 비전 앞에 이런 강이, 바다가 놓인다 할지라도 두려워하지 마시기 바랍니다. 물결을 바라보면 좌절할 수 밖에 없습니다. 그러나 온전히 살아계셔서 우리를 인도하시는 신실하신 하나님만 바라보면 온전히 승리할 것입니다.

 

The vision of God, although there may be obstacle like river or a sea there is no need to fear.  There no need to look at the waves look to God and his promise. 

 

우리 공동체는 올 해 사실 요단을 건너 이 곳에 들어온 것입니다. 이 요단을 건널 때 여러 두려움이 있었지만 믿음으로 나아갈 때 큰 은혜를 경험하였습니다. 올 해는 요단을 건너게 하셨으므로 그러므로 새 해에는 더 큰 은혜를 부어 주실 줄 믿습니다. 하나님의 말씀으로 세상을 정복하고 다스리며 우리 공동체를 통해 복음이 더욱 전파될 줄 믿습니다. 이 요단이 오히려 축복의 증거가 되고, 더 큰 비전 가운데 나아가는 새 해가 되길 간절히 축원합니 다.    

 

Our community this year has crossed the Jordan from Phelps Luck to this church.  Although we have seen obstacles in faith we will experience grace.  This year we crossed the Jordan, this coming year expect more grace.  We will live our lives through God’s word experience the gospel with abundant grace.  This Jordan will become a sign of God’s grace.  This year the grace of God will expand outward.

  

4. 발을 내딛어 도전해야 합니다.(13)  

4. Set you feet on the ground and move forward.(13)

아무리 하나님이 보장해 주셔도 내가 믿음으로 순종하여 도전하지 않으면 아무 소용이 없습니다. 하나님은 약속의 말씀을 하시고 우리는 그 말씀에 믿음으로 순종할 때 역사가 일어나는 것입니다.

 

Even though God promised us the land, in faith if I do not move.  Nothing will happen.  God has promised us, we must believe and obey.  This is how God’s plan will come to life.

 

13절을 보세요.

온 땅의 주 여호와의 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발바닥이 요단 물을 밟고 멈추면 요단물 곧 위에서부터 흘러내리던 물이 끊어지고 쌓여 서리라

 

 ¹³ And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.”

 

사랑하는 여러분! 

믿음은 순종입니다.믿음은 계산하는 것이 아닙니다. 머리 굴리는 것이 아닙니다. 믿음은 모험입니다.왜 그렇습니까? 그 분이 “온 땅의 주” 이시기 때문입니다.“온 땅의 주”라는 말씀은 하나님께서 요단강의 주인이시란 말씀입니다. 하나님이 창조주 시여, 왕이시니 만물이 순종하는 것입니다.

 

Beloved!  Belief is obedience.  Belief is not something you calculate.  Not something you think about.  Belief is an Adventure, a challenge.Why is that?  “The Lord of the Earth” He is the Lord of the Earth.  God is the creator, king of all things

 

온 땅의 주께서 명하시니 요단강이 갈라졌습니다.

순종할 때 기적이 나타납니다.

순종할 때 하나님이 일하시는 것입니다.

우리 교회의 앞 날을 누가 인도하십니까?

사람이 인도하는 것이 아닙니다. 하나님께서 인도하시는 것입니다. 그러므로 그저 우리는 순종하여 나아갈 뿐입니다. 반드시 하나님께서 역사하실 것입니다.

The Lord of all of the earth commanded and the Jordan river split.

When we obey miracles will happen

When we obey God is at work

Who will guide our church?

It’s is not a person, it’s can only be God.  We are to follow in obedience.

When obey God He will work for us.

 

사랑하는 여러분!

이제 새 해를 어떻게 사시겠습니까?

오직 하나님의 비전을 위하여 앞서 가시는 하나님을 따라 말씀대로 삽시다!

우리 자신을 깨끗케 하고 살아계신 하나님을 전적으로 신뢰하며 앞으로 나아갑시다!

반드시 요단강이 갈라지고 가나안 땅을 차지하게 될 것입니다!

이 마지막 시대에 살아있는 믿음으로 온전히 사명 감당하는 우리 CCC와 LWC가 되기를 주님의 이름으로 간절히 축원합니다. (아멘)

How will we live out the New Year?

We will live according to God’s word that proceeds ahead of us.

We must consecrate ourselves.

Let us press on trusting totally in the Living God

The Jordan will split and the Promised Land will be given to us.

In these latter days, with our living faith CCC and LWC will live out the mission of God in the name of Christ. (pray)
